in the Cloth with Fabric Shoppe

in the Cloth

Please welcome, Jody Row of Fabric Shoppe, my guest this month.
Because we HEART fabric.

Rachel:  So, Jody, summer is almost at an end.  What have you been up to this season at the Fabric Shoppe?

Jody:  This time of year the shoppe is full of bright colors and exciting new fall prints!  I've been shipping out lots of the many new animal prints from Ann Kelle’s Urban Zoologie collections for Robert Kaufman this summer.  You can find them in yardage and bundles throughout the shoppe.

Rachel:  Oh, I am a big Anne Kelle fan, as everyone knows by now.  Her artwork makes anything for kids super-cute.  I love those Remix & Urban Zoologie washcloths you featured on your blog, Everyday Beautiful, by your customer Southern Charm Quilts.  So quick, and yet quite the treat to use!

Rachel:  Ok, so Anne Kelle has been hot this summer, but what's new and exciting now?  What are you loving most in your shop?

Jody:  I'd say that Joel Dewberry's 39 piece Heirloom line for Freespirit has been one of our most anticipated collections. The colors in this line are amazing!  My personal favorite is the blockade blossom!

I have plans on making a few pillows, maybe a quilt and possibly some framed fabric art.

Rachel:  Oh, yes, Blockade Blossom in every color please!  Heirloom is such a gorgeous collection.  How I wish I had a project in mind for it right now!

For new stitchers (ok, and more experienced ones too) it can be mighty challenging to know when to buy and when to pass, especially since collections are often available for a short amount of time.  You never know how much you'll need for that someday project, and then there are those times that you really need scraps - not yardage at all!

I've been thinking that great scraps start with a great stash.  After collecting lovely bits and bobs for over a year now and sewing pretty faithfully from my stash, I've been really enjoying working from my accumulated scraps lately.  What would you say is a key ingredient for new stashers?

Jody:  Well, when you really love something you'll want yards and yards of it, and that's when you know that you'd better not let it pass.  Fat Quarter bundles are a great way to get a little of your favorites.  And remember, you don't have to buy a whole collection.   At Fabric Shoppe you can check out with a custom fat quarter bundle of those prints you really can't live without.

But for rounding out your fabric stash, I have to recommend everyone’s favorite kona solids. Our bundles are not only eye candy but an economical way to get lots of pretty basics for your stash.

Rachel:  I have to agree, there.  My solid scraps are the most versatile by far!  Thanks so much for joining us, Jody.  I think now you have something to share?

Jody:  Why yes I do!

  3. Good morning! Thanks, Rachel, for introducing us to another great shop! I would definitely make a quilt out of the Joel Dewberry - I've had my eye on it for a while, but have so many projects in the hopper I've been afraid to let my husband see me buy more fabric! But if I win it, it's meant to be!!! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it....)

  11. I think those fabrics could be a great start for an extra layer of winter warmth on our bed. I always get so cold in the winter, and I'm tired of using the same old spare (i.e. leftover) blankets we've had for years. I'd love to usher in my least favorite months with something beautiful this year!

  196. I have just added you to my circle on Etsy! I'm just starting to build a stash of fabric up. It's hard to do things when you don't have the right colour or design for the project. I have a Etsy shop myself, MotherDragonCreation, and I make childrens toys, note book covers for Mums, and I'm really enjoying making quilts (all by hand) at the moment. So a whole bunch of Joel Dewberry fabric (love his fabric!) would be used to make a bunch of various things.
