Welcome, Hawthorne Threads!

Have you ever set out to find fabrics in a particular shade of pumpkin orange or some other elusive tone?  You can browse sites until you eyes get blurry, sorting through every last print, or locate shops that at least divide colors generally by "orange", "red", "yellow".  But, if you've discovered Hawthorne Threads, you'll always start with their Color Grid tool.  Simply click on the hue of your choice to see all of the matching prints.  You can even further modify your your search by looking for prints that have a high or low dominance of that color, as well as whether they are very close or only somewhat close to your chosen hue.

I have to say that the Color Grid tool is probably what I love most about my newest sponsor, Hawthorne Threads.  It's been a tremendous help on more than one occasion.  Since Hawthorne Thread carries such a huge selection of modern designer fabrics, I can often find the one I have on their site and then navigate to matching fabrics with a click of a button through the color swatches at the bottom of each fabric's page.  And using this kind of search tool brings me in contact with fabrics far off my radar too.  Variety is good!

Crosshatch Sketch by Timeless Treasures

I recently stocked up on a new basic - Crosshatch Sketch by Timeless Treasures from Hawthorne Threads.  As Jeni pointed out, this print reminds me of Heath, but it's available in a LOT more colors.  It looks like I was channeling *boy* when I placed my order?  From top to bottom these are Tangerine, Yellow, Spring, Aqua and Royal.  I got an extra lot of yellow because I seem to go through yellow blenders like mad.

from Hawthorne Threads!

And somehow this little print also jumped into my cart. I was browsing the Novelty category under Themes and these video game goons... like totally reminded me of being a kid. ;)

Anyhoo, I was looking through Novelty in search of word fabrics, of which I am totally lacking.  Have you seen this?  It's Michael Miller's Old Script in gray.  Unfortunately, they were out at the time, but at Hawthorne Threads you can sign up to receive an email notice when a print is restocked.  And, I've done it before.  It works!  I hope to add some words to my stash when this print is available again!

Speaking of emails, I also subscribe to the Hawthorne Threads newsletter.  It goes out weekly with photographs of newly arrived fabric collections, as well as a weekly giveaway!  Haven't won yet, but I plan to someday.  You can enter this week's and sign up for the newsletter right here

So, wait, I didn't mention $5 flat rate shipping, the tantalizing Coming Soon section or how you can save money with Tiered Pricing?  Darn, there's just a lot to love about Hawthorne Threads

Thank-you, Charlie & Lindsay for choosing to sponsor Stitched in Color!  I'm so glad you have created such a cleverly designed store!

p.s.  I just registered to be updated when you receive the Lost & Found by My Minds Eye - more words!!!

  7. wah. i wish i could buy 1/4 or 1/3 yard cuts so i could get a bunch of different prints. i don't have the money, the need, nor the space for 1yrd+ cuts of fabric! owell :D

  8. Well, they do offer 1/2 yard cuts, but I agree that 1/4 yards would be a great improvement!

  11. How wonderful to have them as a sponsor! I love HT...I live in Morocco and have to order my fabric online and after having HT recommended to me by a blogging friend, my amazingly reasonably priced fabric arrived in 1 week! They are fabulous and the fabric is gorgeous.

  14. Thank you for posting this website!!! I've wanted a great color-based search for ages!!

Also, I love that little space invaders print. I'd seen it in the B&W at our local quilt shop, but I adore the colored version so much more! I am going to pick some up to make a baby quilt for my colleague (we are getting PhDs in computer games research so it's perfect!)

And finally, I am SO EXCITED about the Lost & Found fabric line!! I want to make a grey and pink (w/a few red highlights) quilt from that line so badly. :D

    Thanks again for sharing!

  15. So glad they've hopped on as your Sponsor. Those two love-birdshave been a go-to of mine since I first discovered online fabric shopping a few years back. They are straight-up, real-live Good Folks. I LOVE the $5 shipping and the tiered pricing! Congrats on gaining such a terrific sponsor. They will gain as much from you as you will from them.

  24. I have to echo everyone else here & say I LOVE HT. I've been shopping with them since before their website was up & running & I always look there first.
Charlie is so quick to respond to emails, which is really handy when you have a question. Shipping to Canada is cost effective if you make it an 8 yard order (easy to do!) I also wish you could get a 1/4 yard cut, but a half yard minimum tends to be the norm most places.
I also love that customers can upload photos of sewn items. Sometimes it's nice to see a print in 'real life' to better visualize scale/etc.
    So.. yeah, they rock. lol

  25. I have purchased fabric from Hawthorne Threads before and I get their newsletter. I know that you can look at other suggestions when you pick a fabric but I never tried out the color grid. Such a cool tool.
