Bottled Rainbows {on my bed}

This post is part of a series Bottled Rainbows {ticker tape quilt along}.  Please see this page for links to all posts, and join us on Flickr to share your questions and work-in-progress!

Please come in...

hello, room.

So, this is my room.

hello, quilt.

And, this is my new ticker-tape quilt!  (Insert happy dance here.)  See why I chose to add horizontal stripes near the head of the bed?

My Bottled Rainbows quilt measures 84" x 96".    I made it long enough to tuck under the mattress at the foot of the bed so that it doesn't move at all at night.  That's good.  Our old duvet was always shifting, shifting.

hello, binding.

Here's my binding. Yeah, just gray. You see our walls are gray too. I quite like the neutral frame! My binding is actually Robert Kaufman quilter's linen in gray. It has a bit of movement and pairs delightfully with the Alexander Henry Heath border.

Hello!

And here's me... color me happy!  It's a little goofy to pose on your bed for a photo, but I think a quilter really should do this sometime, right?  In case you're wondering, I'm saying:  Hello, this is me. Thanks for coming!

I can't thank you enough for your enthusiasm!  What a blast it's been to share this creative journey with all of you!!!!

But, I do believe this marks the end of our very colorful quilt-along. Except I know that many of you are in progress or just beginning. So, you can bet I'll keep my eye on our Flickr group and share your lovely rainbows on Stitched in Color from time to time.   Keep up the good work!

Happy Stitching!

  1. Congrats, it looks fabulous(!) and so do you—so nice to see a quilter with their quilt :)

I have been hoping to add this project onto my list but I just have too much on my plate. Have everything bookmarked and am just waiting for the stars to align, haha.

  8. It is just lovely! I love the bright colors in your neutral bedroom...very pretty! Was wondering what zig zag stitch you used. I love the way it turned out! It looks like maybe each zig is 2 stitches? Thanks again for such a great quilt a long!!

  27. Hi Rachel

It's wonderful! I have loved watching this little quilt along gain momentum. Maybe I'll make it one day, as I too share that obsession with Rainbows. I may not have made such a big Rainbow quilt, but I did make a little one last week.

  32. First of all, you are always sooo beautiful in your pictures. I agree too that this would be a great author picture. ;)

I love what your horizontal stripes did for the top of the quilt. It looks obviously gorgeous with your headboard. So fun that your husband agreed to this! It's certainly a great summer quilt.

  33. That looks so fabulous! I love the stripes at the top, great way to add length to the quilt without taking away from the blocks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. It looks great! And I like the stripey part at the top! When I read what you were going to do, it totally inspired me to finally figure out how to do the backing on my Christmas quilt! So, thanks for the inspiration! Congratulations!

  38. Cherie - the zigzag stitched I used is just as you described. It has a few stitches for each leg of the zig zag. I thought it would be a fun one to use!

Thank-you for you lovely comments! It is a great feeling to have this on my bed! And for those of you still bottling rainbows, you've got to know that I don't miss a single photo in the flickr pool. I love seeing your work!

  43. really beautiful rachel and I love that pic of you on the bed. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. It. is. incredible! I just love it, and you look thrilled to have it on your bed. Congrats on a big finish!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well done! I love how each color block is a mini quilt of its own yet wholly part of the bed quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  46. SO pretty, Rachel! I love the "header" on the top...did you do that on the bottom as well? Do you mind if I "borrow" that idea? it's a really good one...
I think I've settled on a grey/neutral backing, even if I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm letting the idea "steep" while my machine is in for its annual checkup...
It really has been a terrific ride. A year ago I never would have pictured myself doing this QAL, but it's been SO helpful, fun and joyful. I can't wait to blog about it...if I ever get back to my blog!
    Best to you. And Thanks.

  47. i'm writing to ask about your headboard~~ (1) is it black, or is it that espresso/browm/black color?
    (2) where did you purchase it??

It's a given that I'm ultra in love with your bottled rainbow quilt! What an accomplishment!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh, what a wonderful quilt. I really like the stripes you added. It looks fabulous. Congrats.

    ReplyDelete
  49. so gorgeous Rachel!! It really looks wonderful on your bed. And I love that photo of you posing with your quilt! I agree - we should pose with our quilts more often!

  50. Deb, Thank-you! Our bed was purchased from Crate & Barrel about 5 years ago. It is that espresso/brown/black color as is most of our furniture. I love how dark furniture hides everything.

Sooz - Of course you can make stripes on your Bottled Rainbow! I'm all for the flattering of imitation =). On the bottom of the quilt, I just added an extra wide layer of the gray border. I knew it would be tucked into the bed forever, so easy was good here. Good question!

  51. I really love this quilt!! I am going to have to make it I'm pretty sure. Thanks for the inspiration!

  55. GREAT JOB Rachel! I love it and really love the top bit. Good for you and you are one hot Momma! There is nothing wrong with having your picture with your quilt! Love you and your blog and no, I have not started yet! Yikes! I am finding it so very hard to get motivated during the summer with the kids around me all the time! I have everything I need and will certainly be tackling it soon! School doesn't start til September 5th but I have some smaller projects that I promised my husband's family for Eid coming up at the end of Ramadan in August. Oh dear!....
