One Night Stand

I need to finish...

* My Anna Maria Horner skirt - it only needs hemming!

* The do. Good Stitches Red & Aqua Sampler charity quilt - just received my Kona snow from Sew Fresh Fabrics for the backing.

* My Christmas Tree skirt - I'm done piecing the top (and WOW!).  Now, should I bind it or just sew right sides together and turn right side out?

Christmas Tree Skirt Piecing

Of course, I didn't work on any of those projects last night. Nope.  I decided to indulge in a quick finish, a one-night stand as it were.

Cross Blocks for do. Good Stitches
These cross blocks are for another do. Good Stitches quilt, this time for the faith circle.  Ahhhh, so easy!  Tutorial here.

What do you need to finish?

Aria's pincushion

P.S.  Speaking of finishes, look what my 5-year-old just finished!  It's a little froggie pincushion.  She wanted me to share it with you :).

  1. I only have to hem my skirt too! I can't wait to see how yours turned out!

  2. That's a pretty awesome pincushion! I'm impressed! And I love that tree skirt! I'm excited to see it finished!

I have so many projects that just need a bit more time-- my mermaid quilt needs it's binding stitched, I've got a couple of bee quilts to put together, and I have multiple things that have been started in my head, but need to get completed in real life.

    Good luck!

  3. i have nothing to finish, but lots of things to start :)

  4. Love that pin cushion! Great job!!

I need to finish a big huge king size quilt for my sister in law!! Other than that I need to START some things!!

  5. Love the pincushion! So cute!

  6. the pincushion is adorable! :) i say quilt and bind the tree skirt- the binding always gives things such a nice "finished" look... i need to finish a quilt for my sweet grandmother.

  7. I need to finish my AMH skirt too, but I've only done the front so far.....I'm really far behind! I can't wait to see yours -- the fabric was so lovely.

    I also need to finish:

*Bella's birthday crown -- but just the velcro for the back
*my MIL & Mom's mother's day gifts (YES, from this year...)
*a birthday garland for Bella, but I haven't started it yet so it probably doesn't count

I love the pincushion! I can't wait to show it to Bella. I'm slowly getting her interested in sewing, but I don't know when to start her with a real needle. She didn't enjoy the plastic needle/plastic grid activity, so I'd like to have her sew something real.

Do you have any quick tips for teaching a little person? She'll be 5 in two weeks.

  8. Sometimes it's just nice to make a list, right?

So, if she hasn't used a real needle, you can run to the store and buy her a real metal needle that's pretty dull. These are large too, which makes it easy. I let my 3 year old use this on burlap with an embroidery hoop. He can play at embroidering and make whatever design he likes. That's the first "sewing" step I've used for both of my kids.

When she's ready for me, look for a needle with a big eye (so that she can eventually learn to thread it). I think most 5-year-olds are ready to use a sharp needle, seated and with some light supervision. I like books, so Aria learned to sew with the Winky Cherry book located here. It was really great, teaching all the basics that I take for granted and comes with a felt project ready to sew.

  9. Haha. What do I need to finish? Right now a better question would be: what do I need to start? So many things...

  10. I love Aria'a pincushion! My boys would adore it!

  11. I have a few things to finish.. A crochet blanket, but there are so many hexagones I can make a night without being bored, so I am keeping to 4 an evening, then there is a patchwork - that I started 15 years ago, so it can wait a bit longer... And not started yet, but will be on my WIP list is a cushion cover for one of my friends (doing swatches at the moment)... I jsut scared myself, right there.
I LOVE the cross blocks, thanks for sharing the tutorial!

  12. Yeah, my skirt...still undone. AND I was foolish enough to use summery fabric. Now I'm going to have this lovely summer skirt finished just in time for...winter?! Awesome!

    Love the blog!

  13. Yes, mine is a summer skirt as well, but it actually seems like we have quite a bit of summer left here in South Carolina..

  14. ok,, so you do great work, however, I am totally interested in the frog!!! Your 5 year old did a great job so I thought maybe I could do it too. Actually, we are throwing a baby shower for my sister in law in 3 weeks and it is a frog theme, I am curious to know where the pattern for this came from??? Thanks for your help!

  15. my skirt needs to be totally redone - can't wait to see yours, rachel!
