Before and After.

My sewing notions, fabric scraps and embroidery supplies live together on this side of the cabinet.  Not so pretty, eh?  Not functional either.  I've had embroidery skeins dump out on the floor on more than one occasion.

New Crewel Thread!

Thanks to some birthday money, a rainbow of Appleton Crewel Wool arrived in my mailbox today!

a pretty Liberty box

I figured it deserved a nice home, so I sought out this pretty Liberty of London box from Target and some other supplies to reorganize that cabinet.

Bamboo Drawer Keeper

A bamboo drawer organizer was the main prize.  It has a deep lower level and a removeable and slideable upper level for little things. I'm glad to have my rarely-used/backup notions and other random crafting supplies in a non-plastic and more handy home.   And, yes, I did specify "non-plastic."  While plastic has its uses, I always prefer to look and handle wood and cloth.  Obviously just a nicety; but, hey, that's what birthday money is for!  I like that it's open on top so I can just grab what I need (which is usually just thread) without removing it from my cabinet.

Layers of organization

and After.

  1. Gee, I never thought of using those drawer organiser-thingies for this type of stuff - might be the solution to some of my problems! I too love the look and feel of bamboo.
I agree - what is birthday money for if not to buy the little 'niceties' that you might otherwise skip over!

  2. Love it. I'm so OCD. I think I could live in the container store. Not kidding.

  3. That's so pretty and neat now! I love the Liberty of London stuff from Target. I have a tiny journal and some note cards in that same print. It was my favorite print they had this spring, and this post makes me want to get a box, too!

  4. Awesome. I'm a sucker for organizing. I keep my thread in a turquoise wooden silverware tray, organized by color/gradient. I, too, am slightly OCD when it comes to stuff like this. Although my friend recently gave me a full gallon ziploc stuffed with embroidery thread that I still haven't reorganized. I think your post just might have inspired me.

  5. I confess to a love of organization. Your turquoise wooden silverware try sounds VERY pretty. My colored thread collection lives in clear plastic thread boxes with lids that I got from Hancocks. Since they are so very functional, I have no excuse to replace them!

  6. Hey sis I finally can view all your work with new phone. Yeah also my etsy name is: mommatupperware4 love you

  7. YUM, love that wool! It looks like candy! :)
